Members of the Judiciary Disciplinary Committee gathered on Thursday June 30, 2022 for a luncheon at Piato Restaurant not to deliberate on disciplinary matters but to formally bid farewell and recognize the contribution of the Committee's outgoing Chairperson and Secretary; Hon. Justice Ezekiel Muhanguzi and HW Flavia Nassuna Matovu, respectively.
Hon. Justice Muhanguzi retired from Judiciary Service recently after clocking the mandatory retirement age while HW Nassuna was appointed Acting Judge of the High Court.
Hon. Justice Muhanguzi appreciated the surprise farewell and commended this culture that has now germinated in the Judiciary.
"As a community and part of Judiciary, the culture that is coming up is a very good one. I commend you for this...even at Supreme Court on my last day of duty, the same surprise happened. It is a good thing," he said.
Adding that it is good to know that the people one works with appreciate them. "Judiciary is a special institution. I feel privileged to have worked with the Judiciary. The terms of working are now good, you need to take advantage of them responsibly," he noted.
The retired Supreme Court Justice shared tips with Committee members on how he managed to serve for so long in public service. The tips included being focused and not being compromised.
Hon. Justice Muhanguzi advised them to always be ready for their retirement and always look towards it. Furthermore, he advised them to value themselves as public officers, be themselves and desist from vices such as bribery and laziness.
He congratulated HW Nassuna on her elevation and appreciated her commitment to service and expressed the fact that she will make it, even to greater heights.
HW Nassuna appreciated the outgoing Chairperson's cordial working relationship with the entire team as well as the proper handling of those who always appeared before the Committee with extreme professionalism. She further asked him to carry on with the legacy.
Hon. Justice Muhanguzi was described by various committee members as being a good mentor, and guide who presided over the committee with extra guidance as well as offering useful lessons. The team further appreciated him for retiring honorably while still in good health, not forgetting his calmness and being assertive at the same time.
On the same note, members commended HW Nassuna for her impartial and well-investigated tireless work. They congratulated her upon her well-deserved elevation, wishing her the best in her new assignment.
At the climax of the luncheon, plaques of appreciation were given to the two followed by cake-cutting.
